Burt Shavitz, a former photojournalist from Manhattan, and Roxanne Quimby, an artist living in San Francisco, both sought respite from the hustle and bustle of city life and eventually ended up in the pristine wilderness of Maine.
There, Burt became the local 'beekeeper', selling honey from his truck to make a living. When he met Roxanne, he shared his knowledge of bees, and together they experimented with using excess beeswax to make candles and lip balm.
This led to the creation of Burt's Bees, a brand that values the importance of staying connected to nature and is just as compelling today as it was then!
